Depressed?
Psalms 68:19 Blessed is Jehovah; He daily bears burdens for us, the God of our salvation. Selah.
Have you ever been depressed? It can be very debilitating, and even scary. I have suffered depression several different times in my life, it is no fun. I would try to "pull myself up by the bootstraps" but that did not work. When I was older I took antidepressants, which did nothing but make me gain a lot weight and feel groggy all the time.
The last time I went through depression, it was pretty bad. I was in bed for weeks, I did not have any energy and as my grandmother use to say, my get-up-and-go > got–up-and-went. All I did was eat, sleep and cry. Then I decided to try a different path, I followed Jesus. He is the best!! I prayed (my family & friends prayed) and I got into studying the Word of God - before long I noticed that I was feeling better.
I still have my down times, but I just go to the Lord in prayer and get into the Bible. There is an answer to any and every problem we face in there. It may not always be the answer that we want, but it is the right answer.
I also read several books about it and there were a few really good ones. But the one I recommend the most is Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk about God's Deliverance from a Former Pit-Dweller by Beth Moore. She really took me deeper into the Bible and showed me all the different people who had climbed out of their own pits. She explained how I could follow people like Joseph and David to let God help me out of my pit of depression. It is obvious that she is spirit lead, so check it out. I don’t think you will be sorry.
Father, please forgive us when we stray away from You and Your love. We know that You are in charge of everything and You can defeat all of our enemies, including depression. Thank You for being there when we are down, just as You are when we are up. In Jesus’ name. Amen
