God Is On Our Side
Psalms 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
God is on our side, no matter what comes our way. Nothing is too big for God to handle. Think about it – He created everything – the universe, the world and everything in it.
I had been working as a social worker in the nursing home for over 3 years, it was very stressful but very rewarding work. I figured that I would probably stay there until I retired. I had pulled up stakes, gone to a new town, bought a nice house, decorated it and moved in for the long haul.
Things were perfect, I loved my house, I loved my residents and I loved my job. I got great evaluations, worked well with all of the staff and was even nominated for ‘Caregiver of the Year’.
Then my new boss decided that his “friend” would be a better social worker then me – just like that - I no longer had a job. I was totally devastated and my self confidence was non existent. I spent the next few weeks in bed, I was a mess and really deep into depression.
Even though I left God out of all of this, He did not leave me. He pulled me up out of my devastation through the Bible and a lot prayer from family and friends.
My mom had already been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and it was getting to be unsafe for her to stay home alone. So I turned my attention to taking care of her, which I have been doing fulltime for the past 2½ years. For a little more then a year now, we have lived in a condo a few miles from my brother and near two of my children.
We found a wonderful church, we are closer to family and I have really enjoyed the time to study God’s word. Isn’t our Father amazing? He took a dejected & depressed social worker who was wallowing in self-pity and turned her into a happy caregiver.
Father, Thank You for being with us even when we turn away from You. You are an amazing God and can make anything work out to the way You want it…no matter how big a mess we make of it! Thank You for being the wonderful Father that You are. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Have You Ever Been Depressed?
