God's Word Is The Bible And Jesus Is The Word
You know how sometimes when you read the Bible, God shows you something that you had missed before. That happened to me when I was reading Ruth. I mean, I knew that Ruth left home to go with Naomi, but the great sacrifices she made had not sunk into my thick skull before. Ruth 1:16-17 And Ruth said, Do not beg me to leave you, to return from following after you. For where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Jehovah do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.
Ruth left her family, her home, her country and her way of life including her religious practices – all to go with her widowed mother-in-law, whom she loved deeply.
When they came to Bethlehem, Ruth worked hard in the barley harvest so they could survive. And later she married a relative of her late husband and bore a son, Obed who was in turn the grandfather of King David. Ruth 4:15 And he shall be to you (Naomi) as a restorer of life, and one who cheers your old age. For your daughter-in-law who loves you has borne him, she who is better to you than seven sons. I am not sure that I could even come close to being that courageous. What an amazing women Ruth was. She showed us what is truly important and also what true love really is.
Father, please help us to see what is truly important and give us the courage to do something about it. Thank You for the beautiful examples which You have given us in the Bible. Please bless us with the insight to see what You want us to see. May Your will be done. In Jesus’ name. Amen
