The Golden Rule

Luke 6:31 And as you desire that men should do to you, you do also to them likewise.

Remember when you were young and learned the Golden Rule…”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. It was a good rule but it always seemed that the other parents did not teach their kids about that rule.

You know, we were watching “Little House on the Prairie” last night and I don’t think that Mrs. Olsen ever taught Nellie about the Golden Rule. She was always so mean to the other children. She did finally grow up and became a fine young lady though.

Do we live by the Golden Rule today as adults? I would have to say probably not many of us do. Unfortunately this is pretty much a dog-eat-dog world that we live in. There are some who are just trying to get ahead and don’t really mean to hurt anyone, but they do. Then there are many people that are just out to get all they can get and it does not matter who they have to step on to get it. It is so sad and remember what Jesus said “they have their reward”.

I am looking forward to my reward in heaven - how ‘bout you? Let us join together and do unto this world as we would have it do unto us. Maybe if enough of us make it a point to always follow the Golden Rule, then it might spread. If Nellie on “Little House” can learn it, then anyone can. We can only pray.

Father, forgive us when we don’t always treat others in the way we should. Give us the strength to follow the lead of Jesus and live accordingly. In Jesus’ name. Amen
